PORCELAIN PALADIN

My “Porcelain Paladin” is probably my longest ongoing costume project to date. It started as a very simple replication build where I was attempting to make my own “Porcelain Corset” inspired by the work of The Candy Makeup Artist. In that video, I discovered I loved the aesthetic and process of making that style of armor so much that I wanted to add a matching sword and shield to the look. The project took on another layer of complexity a year later when I decided to add a full set of additional armor to match the look, adding a lot more cohesion to the design. It also finally started to feel a lot more original at this point, rather than a build to strictly emulate someone else’s work. Later that summer I began enamored with facade puppets cosplayers in the community were making, and although these usually took the same of a dragon, I decided to make a giant winged blue Tiger puppet to match my blue armor that was inspired by the likeness of the Executive Producer. Finally, I wrapped up this build (for now) in May 2025 by adding a few extra pieces to round out this build and make it feel more complete as a character. This included a chainmail gorget and skirt, a base dress which matches the aesthetic of the armor, a matching porcelain dagger, a crown, some heraldry pieces, and some assorted potions. I feel like these final additions to the costume really made it feel whole and completed the character, and it was extremely fun to debut the finished look to a real life crowd at the 2025 Tennessee Renaissance Faire.

Porcelain Corset

The first video in my Porcelain Paladin build, my porcelain corset began the rabbit hole and set the aesthetic for the entire project.

Porcelain Sword and Shield

The second video in my project, adding a sword and shield really began to develop the character’s look and give me some very cool props to hold during photoshoots.

Porcelain Armor

The third video in my project, this is when this costume really began to come together. This costume was extremely fun to wear at the 2024 Tennessee Ren Faire and the public’s reactions only made me want to make it more elaborate and immersive.

Porcelain Tiger Puppet

For the fourth video in the project, I decided to add a giant animal companion to the entire look. I became obsessed with dragon facade puppets some people in the cosplay community had been making for years, but I wanted to give mine a little bit more of an original twist, and dedicate it to my house cat, Tiger, whom I refer to as the “Executive Producer” of the channel. This puppet turned out absolutely massive and is somewhat unwieldy to use, but I adore the result.

Porcelain Paladin Upgrades

For the fifth and final installment, I really wanted to bring everything together and make the entire project feel cohesive. When I talk to people about the project at Ren Faires, they usually ask me if I’m a particular character or if the character is an original creation. I wanted to lean into the idea of this being a unique character with specific history and background by adding even more detail and rounding out the design. To round this out, I added a base dress for the armor to go on top of to protect my skin and make the armor feel more unified. I added a hand-woven chainmail skirt and gorget complete with celestial charms for even more details. I added some heraldry pieces to help the corset blend more seamlessly with the rest of the look. I re-made a matching crown since the original headpiece had been a little bit flimsy. And finally, I added a matching dagger and some custom potions for that added touch of extra detail and characterization.

I had an absolute blast creating this project, and its one of the projects I am the most proud of so far in my costuming journey.
